Program Snapshot

About the Program

TIIP is a therapeutic framework originally published by Keshavarzi & Haque in 2013 and developed through ongoing interdisciplinary research at Khalil Center. The model integrates contemporary behavioral science into an inherently Islamic epistemological and ontological framework. Validated through a study published in the APA Journal, demonstrating efficacy as an evidence-based modality for Muslim populations. The training consists of three progressive levels moving from foundational principles to advanced clinical application and method refinement.

Quick Facts

Academic Structure

Primary Focus

Clinical application and skills-based practice. Trains practitioners to conceptualize, assess, and treat psychological disorders using an Islamically integrative therapeutic model, focused on cognitive-behavioral and emotional restructuring.

Teaching Format

Hybrid — online didactic instruction with in-person practicums and intensives. Three progressive levels offered ~3 times per year across multiple international sites. Includes case vignettes, student case presentations, and supervised clinical practice.

Theoretical Foundations

Islamic epistemology and ontology; TIIP model (Keshavarzi & Haque, 2013); Islamic conception of the human psyche integrating ‘aql, nafs, ruh, and ihsas; Qur’anic and Prophetic foundations; integration with contemporary evidence-based practice.

Academic Structure

Prerequisites

Licensure or license eligibility in a mental health practice discipline (or Islamic clergy with formal pastoral training). Evidence of minimum religious education requirements (fard al-ayn).

Assessment & Completion Requirements

Completion of all 3 training levels; successful case study presentation to a panel of 3 TIIP-certified practitioners; 200 supervised practice hours; demonstration of fard al-ayn competency.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Apply the TIIP framework to clinical assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment planning.
  • Utilize an Islamic ontological model of the human psyche (‘aql, nafs, ruh, ihsas) to inform therapeutic interventions.
  • Implement Islamic cognitive restructuring, behavioral reformation (tahdhib al-nafs), and spiritual growth strategies.
  • Present and defend clinical case studies using the TIIP model to a panel of certified practitioners.
  • Meet all requirements for TIIP Certified Therapist designation.
