Find Support

If you are looking for mental health support, guidance, or counseling, there are many professionals and organizations that can help.

The International Association of Islamic Psychology (IAIP) is a professional body dedicated to advancing the field of Islamic Psychology through education, research, and professional standards. While IAIP does not provide direct counseling or mental health services, we encourage anyone seeking support to connect with qualified professionals and trusted organizations.

Below are several pathways for finding appropriate support.

IAIP Certified Practitioners

IAIP certifies practitioners who have completed specialized training in Islamic Psychology and related therapeutic approaches. You can search our directory to find an IAIP-certified practitioner.

If a practitioner is not yet available in your region, we encourage you to seek support from other qualified mental health professionals.

Muslim Mental Health Professionals

Many Muslim therapists, counselors, psychologists, and social workers provide culturally and religiously informed mental health care even if they are not specifically trained in Islamic Psychology. Several organizations maintain directories of Muslim mental health professionals worldwide. These resources may help you find practitioners who understand the cultural and spiritual contexts important to many Muslim clients.

General Mental Health Services

If you are unable to locate a Muslim practitioner or prefer broader options, many licensed mental health professionals can provide valuable support regardless of religious affiliation. Depending on your needs, this may include therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, community counseling services, or local mental health clinics and hospitals. Local professional directories and healthcare systems can help you identify licensed providers in your region.

Supporting Someone in Distress

If someone close to you is experiencing severe distress, listening with compassion and encouraging them to seek professional help can be an important first step. If their safety appears at risk, contacting emergency services or a crisis support provider may be necessary.

A Reflection for Difficult Moments

Periods of emotional distress can feel overwhelming and isolating. Islamic tradition reminds us that hardship is part of the human journey, and that relief and ease are part of Allah’s wisdom and mercy.

The Qur’an reminds us:

“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”
(Qur’an 94:6)

Seeking help is a responsible and courageous step toward healing and stability. Support from trusted people, qualified professionals, and community resources can help guide the way forward.

Crisis and Emergency Support

If you or someone you know is experiencing immediate danger, thoughts of self-harm, or a severe mental health crisis, it is important to seek urgent assistance. Please contact local emergency services or crisis support organizations in your country, as these services are equipped to provide immediate care and protection. Crisis support may include national suicide prevention hotlines, emergency mental health services, hospital emergency departments, or domestic violence support services.
